ATI releases catalyst 10.4 drivers

PDFPrintE-mail

AMD released the final iteration of Catalyst 10.4 graphics driver suite. The WHQL-signed drivers keep up with the company's one month update cycle, and introduce a wide range of changes. To begin with, game-specific performance improvements in this release are confined to STALKER - Clear Sky, with up to 6% improvement in frame-rates for the Radeon HD 5970, and up to 3% for HD 5800 and HD 5700 series GPUs. There are changes to the video-decoding features, namely addition of H.264 Level 5.1 support, and a fix that reduces the "mosquito noise" seen in highly-compressed video.

Powercolor makes 5970 with 12 displayports

PDFPrintE-mail

"If you think that the Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Editions cards are extreme, with their six mini DisplayPorts, then think again as PowerColor is working on a Radeon HD 5970 card with 12 (twelve) outputs.

Seen below, PowerColor's uber-Eyefinity HD 5970 model features 12 mini DisplayPorts that can power a maximum of 12 monitors, it takes up three PCI slots so it will have a massive cooler, and packs 4GB of GDDR5 memory. The card's clocks have not been set yet and we may have to wait until early June and Computex to find them out. Still, even at stock HD 5970 frequencies this Hemlock card should be a beast so you may want to start saving up. For both the card and 12 monitors." Pictures below. It seems since AMD lets board partners change the designs however they wish we may just be seeing the start of incredible things to come.
